Jan ter Weele, born in Groningen, The Netherlands, is a painter whose reputation has grown tremendously with consistent exhibits across the state and nationally. Drawing from his Dutch heritage and the 'Fauves', Jan's paintings express his passion for color and form. His paintings engage us with the abstraction of physical and personal landmarks while flattening form into shape, and his daring and balanced use of color. Jan writes of artmaking, "I think the sources of painting, and of art generally, are unknown to us. They flow from some reservoir which is mysterious and universal."
Janna Civittolo of Cerulean Fine Art Gallery is delighted to be bringing this Portland based painter to Hallowell, "Jan's paintings are like color-enhanced memories of places that many of us have experienced. His palette brings a boldness to the landscape and his forms bring harmony to our eyes."
On August 13, 14, & 15 Cerulean will present -Art School for Kids? where children are invited to dabble in a variety of art forms with professional artists as teachers. The cost is $60. FMI www.ceruleanart.com or 626 - 9009.
