Painting beyond frontiers

February 22, 2010

In Chennai,India  for a demonstrate, senior artist Sakti Burman elucidate how spanning two worlds has enriched his work.

His behavior are delightfully old-world, his pronunciation Bengali with a quaint French inflection.

Much similar to his world-renowned work of art and lithographs, Sakti Burman in person exudes a calm, all-encompassing compassion towards the world with all its vagaries, and a movingly innocent enthusiasm for what it has to offer.

For instance, he narrates regarding going to a number of temples near Mahabalipuram through a former visit to Chennai, and how his half-French daughter was not allowed in, even though she said, "'I am Hindu!'."

There's no anger or infuriation at the remembrance; he just muses, "Where the rules come from, nobody knows; they just go on."

In typical Bob Dylan modesty, the painter conveyed that he just drew what's interesting to him and then he painted it.. He said that he is not trying to make social comment or fulfill others' vision and that  he can locate subject matter anywhere. He added that in some way,it develops out of the folk world that he came up in.

Newburyport artist Lisa Riordon works with children to raise money for Haiti

February 10, 2010

Abstract Art

The ache and loss in Haiti has been upsetting, but nothing has been as distressing as the stories and images of the island's children. The international aid organization Save the Children estimates that 1 around million Haitian children lost either one or both parents in the colossal earthquake that struck the island on Jan. 12. And now, as thousands of children roam alone all the way through the ruins of their homes and neighborhoods, several fear they are susceptible to disease, famine and child predators. Many people have searched for ways to help and one such person is Newburyport artist and graphic designer Lisa Riordon who has adopted a new method for helping.

Riordon, who is known for her signature series of paintings of children in silhouette, decided almost at once to put her art about kids to work for kids. And she has teamed up with a group of Newburyport elementary school students to get the work done.Riordon conveyed that it is such a large scale event that it can be tough to feel like you can do anything to make a difference. She also said that she wanted kids to be able to do something to help.

Abstract Art
Riordon has launched "A Painting a Day" fundraiser, and for this month, and possibly longer, she will create a fresh set of paintings of children in silhouette which will eventually be sold to raise money to support Save the Children's relief effort in Haiti.

Like her previous works, these paintings start with an abstract field of lively color and brush strokes and are finished with a silhouette that captures something essential and universal about childhood. Different from her previous paintings, Riordon isn't painting each individual background.

For this gamut of paintings, students from Eileen Whitney's third grade class at Bresnahan School and children from Margaret Foster's kindergarten class at Brown School are taking care of this initial step.

Riordon said that the 20 kids whom she worked with to create the 6-inch by 6-inch abstract paintings are so motivated about this project. The kids learned the basics of abstract art and were delighted to discover that sometimes it is acceptable to sling paint, especially when it's for a good cause. Also, these kids wanted to know more about Haiti.

Portrait of Princes William And Harry Disclosed

February 3, 2010

A brand new oil painting has been disclosed, featuring the two royal brothers Prince William and Prince Harry. The portrait is an appealing one, with the features of the two young men well depicted. The picture has been displayed in London, at the Contemporary Galleries of the National Portrait Gallery. There are also additional portraits featuring the royalty in Britain at the Gallery, together with the one on Prince William and Prince Harry.

Princes William and Harry

Painted by the British artist Nicky Phillips, the picture shows the princes talking to each other, clad in full military costume. They are adorned in the full military regalia as a  whole with sashes and medals. The backdrop of the portrait is the library in Clarence House, the official royal residence of the princes. The pictures are pragmatic enough, mirroring the two men pretty well.

The two princes are depicted in the picture in a informal pose, engaged in a brotherly lively chat in the library of Clarence House. The main attraction of the oil painting is the informality it conveys, regardless of the fact that the men are dressed in the most f
ormal of attires, that of the Household Cavalry. The royal sittings took place in the artist's studio. Both the brothers have expressed their happiness at the inauguration of their first portrait alone. Previously, all other portraits featured them in the company of other people.
