Early days:
Anna
Kirstine Brøndum Ancher was
a Danish painter who was born in Skagen,Denmark.Anna
Ancher(1859 –1935)
was the daughter of Ane Hedvig and Erik Brondum. Her father worked
as a grocer and he also owned the Hotel Brøndum.
She was the eldest of the 5 children in her family. Her talent
became evident at an early age and she grew familiar with pictorial
art via the scores of artists who settled to paint in Skagen.Among
them one of the artists who visited Skagen was
Michael Ancher,to whom Anna had got married in the year 1880.Anna
Ancher’s artistic career was outstanding, due to the fact
that she was a painter at a time when it was unusual that women
received an creative education.Additionaly they were not accepted
at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
Interesting fact :
There is an fascinating story about the hotel Brondum and the
birth of Anna Ancher. Its seems that,
in 1859, when the well-known author
H. C. Andersen was on a holiday in Skagen, he went to
the Hotel Brondum to have dinner. He ordered fish, but since
the restaurant ran out of fish,Anna’s mom sent a boy
to a nearby village to buy fish.
As the meal was getting very delayed,H.C Anderson got so angry
and he shouted at the poor lady.Eventually when the meal
with the fish arrived , it was too delicious. H.C Anderson
,later wrote about it in one of his stories, the meal was so yummy,
that even a king would have called it a wonderful dinner.
On the other hand,it is supposed that his shouting
disturbed Anna's mother so terribly that she went into
labor and delivered Anna that same night.
