Edward Mitchell Bannister

Edward Mitchell Bannister (1828 - 1901) was a United States painter in the style of the French Barbizon school who painted the New England landscape. With few exceptions (he won a bronze medal at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial) Bannister was largely unknown because of the virulent racism of the times .
